Newly-elected President of the Republic of Srpska solemnly assumes duty

The newly-elected President of the Republic of Srpska, Željka Cvijanović, solemnly assumed duty from the former President Milorad Dodik in Banja Luka today.

The handover of duty was carried out after the newly elected President of Srpska Željka Cvijanović and the newly elected Serb member of the BiH Presidency Milorad Dodik had previously sworn an oath at the constituent session of the 10th National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska.

Within the framework of the inauguration, the newly elected President of Srpska was welcomed by an honorary unit earlier in front of the Palace of the Republic.

The President Cvijanović emphasized she would be responsible and would work honorably, expressing the hope that Srpska would get a new government soon.

During the address, after the ceremonial handover of duty in the Palace of the Republic, the President of Srpska said that she would refer to the citizens, people, Srpska, and institutions in the same way.

“I shall do this with due care and respect, knowing that the Republic is strong only when we are together. When we have strong institutions, we can do everything, but when we are divided, then we can do a little for Srpska” it was said by the President Cvijanović.

The President of the Republic said that it was a challenge to take on some position after Milorad Dodik regarding his special energy and style he brought in, performing each of the positions.

“It was the same when I came to the Government, but it turned out that we could work well as a team. I am sure that this cooperation will continue to be equally good, especially since it is important for Srpska to establish a concrete relationship, good understanding, cooperation, harmonisation and coordination between the republican institutions and our representatives at the level of BiH in the joint bodies”, it was said by the President of Srpska.

The President of the Republic said that by having Milorad Dodik ahead as the Serb member of the BiH Presidency, her work would be facilitated.

“I feel that it will therefore be less challenging for me by taking up this important duty” said the President of the Republic of Srpska.

The President of the Republic emphasized that she was proud of the citizens of Srpska, the people and the Republic, and thanked her colleagues, the ministers, in the Government.

“I would also like to thank the deputies and everyone from other institutions who were always with us, were ready and walked forward together. I believe in the Republic, our better future and I know that this can be achieved if we are responsible and together”, said the President Cvijanović, and thanked the former President of Srpska for the nice words and expressed trust at the handover ceremony.

The President of the Republic stated that it ended an important election cycle, which shows the ability and capacity of Srpska to quickly realise the election results.

“I expect that we will have a new government very soon, which means that life in Srpska will continue to function smoothly”, said the President of Srpska, adding that this is in the interest of the Republic and the citizens.

The former President of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik symbolically handed over the flag and the Constitution of the Republic Srpska to the President Željka Cvijanović, and then they signed a joint statement on the handover of duty.
