Meeting with the leadership of the City of Trebinje

The President of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik met today in Trebinje with the leadership of this city.

The President of the Republic of Srpska stated that Trebinje is a successful local community and that with the construction of an airport and a high-speed road to Višegrad, it will gain a completely different dimension.

“This city will be opened when the airport is built, it is in the procedure, no one has given up on it”, said the President Dodik.

The President of Srpska noted that the Government of Serbia plans funds for the construction of the airport in the budget, but that this complicates the process that is related to the procedures at the BiH level.

The President Dodik pointed out that the idea of a highway, a high-speed road from Trebinje to Bileća, Gacko, to Višegrad, where that road would be connected to the connection from Serbia, will begin to be implemented.

“This is a very challenging route, but we are already talking with Chinese and other companies that are ready to carry out the design and agree on long-term financing for this route”, said the President of the Republic.

The President of the Republic of Srpska assessed that Trebinje managed to solve the capital challenges it had five or six years ago, and when it comes to road infrastructure, he noted that the Ljubinje-Trebinje road was repaired earlier, as well as that the ring road was partially completed.

The President of Srpska said that the Republic of Srpska is no longer the one that only reacts to social and infrastructural disasters, but designs projects that will enable people to arrive faster.

“People come by highways and leave by small roads”, stressed the President Dodik.

The President of the Republic of Srpska added that it remains to build a hospital in Trebinje, and that the project is financed to cover both the facility and the equipment, stating that the goal is to develop a medical tourism here.

“The hospital should make it possible to attract a significant number of those who will find a solution to their problems here”, said the President of Srpska.

The President Dodik said that Trebinje is a successful local community led by the mayor and his team, and that the strategic priority branches of energy, agriculture and tourism have been properly selected and will have to be followed through concrete plans and organisation.

The President of Srpska noted that the development of the city in all its elements has stopped the departure of people, and that it is visible that people are returning. “Trebinje has managed to resolve the gray zone regarding tourist accommodation, we need to persist”, said the President of the Republic of Srpska.

According to the President of the Republic, the construction of new solar and wind power plants is planned in the city, which will bring new income to the city, but also ensure the energy stability of the Republic of Srpska and the region.

“We, as a community that has enough electricity, must not remain at the back of the process that will provide answers in ten years regarding new sources of energy”, said the President Dodik.

The President of the Republic of Srpska explained that traditional sources such as thermal power plants are under strong pressure from regional and European institutions to bring the emissions of various substances into the air to an ecological standard that will probably be unprofitable for exploitation.

In Trebinje, said the President Dodik, 85 percent of arable land has irrigation, which no local community has, and this should be used.
